•Scheepjes Stone Washed XL (Aran weight; 70% cotton/30% acrylic; 82 yds/50g per ball): 4 balls #872 enstatite

•Size 9 (5.5mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge

To save time, take time to check gauge.

The scarf is worked in two halves, worked from middle and out.

Scarf

First Half

Cast on 30 sts.

Knit 3 rows.

Body

Row 1 (RS): K3, *k1, p1, k1, p5; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.

Row 2 and all WS rows: K3, knit the knit sts and purl the purl sts to last 3 sts, k3.

Row 3: K4, p1, *k5, p1, k1, p1; rep from * to last 9 sts, k5, p1, k3.

Row 5: K4, *p5, k1, p1, k1; rep from * to last 10 sts, p5, k1, p1, k3.

Row 7: K3, *k5, p1, k1, p1; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.

Row 9: K3, p4, *k1, p1, k1, p5; rep from * to last 7 sts, [k1, p1] twice, k3.

Row 11: K6, *p1, k1, p1, k5; rep from * to last 8 sts, p1, k1, p1, k5.

Row 13: K3, p2, *k1, p1, k1, p5; rep from * to last 9 sts, k1, p1, k1, p3, k3.

Row 15: K4, *p1, k1, p1, k5; rep from * to last 10 sts, p1, k1, p1, k7.

Row 16: Rep Row 2.

Rep Rows 1–16 until piece measures approx 25 inches, ending with Row 8 or 16.

Lace & Gansey Stripe

Rows 1 and 2: Knit.

Row 3 (RS): K3, *yo, k2tog; rep from * across to last 3 sts, k3.

Rows 4 and 5: Knit.

Row 6: K3, purl to last 3 sts, k3.

Rows 7 and 8: K3, *p3, k3; rep from * across to last 3 sts, k3.

Rows 9 and 10: K3, *k3, p3; rep from * across to last 3 sts, k3.

Rows 11 and 12: Rep Rows 7 and 8.

Row 13: Knit.

Row 14: K3, purl to last 3 sts, k3.

Rows 15 and 16: Knit.

Row 17: Rep Row 3.

Rows 18 and 19: Knit.

Row 20: K3, purl to last 3, k3.

Rib Edge

Row 1 (RS): K3, *M1L, k6; rep from * 4 times to last 3 sts, M1L, k3—35 sts.

Row 2: K3, *p1, k1; rep from * across to last 4 sts, p1, k3.

Row 3: K3, *k1, p1; rep from * across to last 4 sts, k4.

Rows 4–6: Rep Rows 2 and 3 once, then Row 2 once.

Row 7: K3, *k1, yo, sl 1 pwise; rep from * to last 4 sts, k4.

Row 8: K3, *yo, sl 1 pwise, knit yo and sl st tog; rep from * to last 4 sts, yo, sl 1 pwise, k3.

Row 9: K3, *knit yo and sl st tog, yo, sl 1 pwise; rep from * to last 5 sts, knit yo and sl st tog, k3.

Rep Rows 8 and 9 until Rib Edge measures approx 3 inches, ending with a WS row.

Bind off loosely (knit yo’s and sl sts tog).

2nd Half
